Text: Jame Stewert, Calculus, early transcendentals - edition 4.
We will cover chapters 5-8, 10-11.
Tutoring:
Private tutoring can be arranged by visiting the START center Drop in tutoring is available in Nightingale at times to be announced (I think it will be M-Th 9AM-9PM and F 9AM-5PM).
Homework and schedule:
I will assign homework on a daily basis. This homework is to be turned in, some of which will be graded. For most homework problems (and tests and quizzes), a complete solution consists of not only the answer but all the work required to get the answer. This is considered a bare minimum of homework to complete. You should also do more of the problems in the book on your own. Late homework will not be accepted. I will drop 5 homework scores when computing grades.
Work expected:
This is a difficult class. Expect to put in lots of time. You will be expected to keep up with the material by reading the book and doing homework. (Do not forget to read the book!)
Tests and Grades:
There will be two in class exams and several quizzes. The quizzes should be nearly identical to the homework and will be "pop." I will drop 25% of the quizzes (so if we have four quizzes, I will drop one). The tests are scheduled as below.
15% Homework
15% Quizzes
20% Exam 1 September 27
20% Exam 2 November 15
30% Final Monday December 17, 10:00-11:50AM
Grades:
Grades will be assigned on the scale
 84-87 B+72-75 C+60-63D+
92-100 A80-83 B68-71 C55-60 D0-54 E
88-81 A-76-79 B-64-67 C-
I may slightly adjust this scale at the end of the semester (in your favor only).
Calculators and Computers:
Calculators and computers can be quite helpful when doing homework. I use a HP calculator, but the TI is a great calculator as well. We may occasionally use calculators in class and they will be allowed on most quizzes, but possibly not on the tests. Maple is a wonderful computer program that is useful to use as well. You will be responsible to use Maple for some of your homework assignments.
