I am usually in my office before and after class, but feel free to stop by any time or make an appointment.

Text: Varberg and Purcell, Calculus with Analytic Geometry - edition 8.

We will cover chapters 13-17.

Edition seven will work fine too. You can come talk to me about it if you want.

Tutoring:

There is free tutoring available in Mines 210:

Monday & Wednesday	9AM - 7PM
Tuesday and Thursday	10AM - 7PM
Friday	9AM - 2PM

There is also tutoring available through the Tutoring Center. They are located in SSB 330. I believe the cost is $6 per hour.

Homework and schedule:

I will post the assigned homework daily on the course web page. There will be homework that is to be turned in and graded and there will be other suggested problems that are not to be turned in. The homework that is to be turned in will be due two days after that particular section is covered. (So, if it is covered on a Wednesday, it will be due the following Monday.) I will drop 5 homework scores when computing grades.

Work expected:

This is a difficult class and will require lots of your time. You will be expected to keep up with the material by reading the book and doing homework. (Do not forget to read the book!) You should expect to do at least 6-8 hours of work for this class per week. You might need to do 12 hours or more per week in order to really understand the material.

Tests and Grades:

There will be two in class exams, two takehome exams and a final. The takehome tests will generally be handed out on a Friday and due on the following Monday or Wednesday.

Grades:

Grades will be assigned on the standard 90-100=A, 80-90=B, etc.

I will make a slight adjustment of this scheme by sliding the scale down after the final has been graded.

Calculators:

Calculators can be quite helpful when doing homework (as can a computer with a program like Maple). Calculator will not be allowed on tests.

Pet Peeves:

• Try not to miss an exam. If you have to miss an exam, make sure you talk to me about it well in advance (1 week).
• Do not use a pen on an exam, especially a red one.
• Do not think you can get an A or B without doing the work and studying hard every week.
