There are two editions of the book available.
It seems most everyone in class has the 7th edition, but the 8th is the only edition available in the bookstore.
We will the 7th edition.
The bookstore claims that they will have the 7th edition available by January 11, we will wait and see.
In any case, the only real difference (for us) between the editions is the problem sets (which really aren't
very different).
So, if you have an 8th edition book, you can do the same problems in the 7th edition by either going to the
math library and using the book on reserve or copying the problem sets.
I made 13 copies of these this morning, so if ask first on Friday, you can have one of these too.
I will post the assigned homework daily on the course web page.
Home work will not usually be turned in,
but there is not question of the correlation between grades and homework done.
On rare occasions, I may assign homework to be turned in.
This will be given a grade, but will not usually count toward your course percentage.
Work expected:
This is a difficult class and will require lots of your time.
You will be expected to keep up with the material by reading the book and doing homework.
(Do not forget to read the book!)
You should expect to do at least 6-8 hours of work for this class per week.
You might need to do 12 hours or more per week in order to really understand the material.
Tests:
There will be three in class exams and three take home exams according to the schedule below.
Each of these will be worth 12% of your total grade for the class and the final is worth 28%.
The take home exams will generally be assigned on Friday and will be due on the following Monday.
